Overview

The Laboratory module manages the complete lab workflow -- from test ordering to result reporting. For clinics with an in-house lab, this module tracks samples, manages worklists, and delivers results directly to the patient chart.

For clinics that send samples to external labs, you can still use this module to track orders and manually enter results when they arrive.

Key Features

  • Lab Orders -- Receive orders from doctors during OPD consultations
  • Worklist -- Prioritized list of pending tests for lab technicians
  • Specimen Tracking -- Track sample collection, transport, and processing
  • Result Entry -- Enter results with normal range validation and critical value alerts
  • Quality Control -- Levey-Jennings charts and QC run management
  • Reports -- Print formatted lab reports with reference ranges
  • Analyzer Integration -- Connect lab analyzers for automatic result capture
Lab order lifecycle

Orders stay traceable from request to sample, validation, and report delivery.

For Small Clinics

If your clinic has a basic lab (blood sugar, hemoglobin, urine routine), the Lab module simplifies result management. If you rely on external labs:

  1. Order tests from the OPD consultation
  2. Print the lab request form for the patient to carry
  3. When results arrive, enter them manually or upload the PDF
  4. Results appear in the patient's chart automatically

Notes

Clinic tip

Even without an in-house lab, use Lab Orders to track which tests were ordered and match results when they come back. This creates a complete investigation history in the patient's EMR.
