Overview

Triage is the first clinical contact in the emergency department. The triage nurse rapidly assesses the patient, assigns a priority level, and routes them to the appropriate bay.

Triage Workflow

  1. Patient arrives at ED reception
  2. Triage nurse opens Emergency > New Triage
  3. Record:
    • Name, age, gender (quick-register if unregistered)
    • Chief complaint and mechanism of injury
    • Vital signs (BP, pulse, SpO2, temperature, GCS)
    • Triage category using the 5-level system:
      • Red (Immediate) -- life-threatening, see within 0 minutes
      • Orange (Very Urgent) -- see within 10 minutes
      • Yellow (Urgent) -- see within 60 minutes
      • Green (Standard) -- see within 120 minutes
      • Blue (Non-urgent) -- see within 240 minutes
  4. Assign to available bay/bed
  5. Alert the ED doctor automatically

The system timestamps every action for medico-legal documentation.

Unidentified Patients

For unconscious or unidentified patients:

  • Use the 'Unknown' registration mode
  • The system assigns a temporary ID (e.g., UNKNOWN-ED-001)
  • Capture photos for identification
  • Update details when identity is established
  • MLC (Medico-Legal Case) flag can be set if applicable

Notes

Warning

Red triage patients trigger an audible alert on the ED Bed Board and send push notifications to the on-call ED doctor. Ensure notification settings are configured.
