Overview
The Biomedical Waste (BMW) module tracks waste generation, segregation compliance, storage, and disposal as per the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016. It generates regulatory reports for the State Pollution Control Board.
Waste Tracking
Record waste generation by category:
- Yellow: Human anatomical, animal, soiled, chemical, discarded medicines, chemical liquid.
- Red: Contaminated recyclable waste (tubing, catheters, gloves).
- White: Sharps (needles, blades, scalpels).
- Blue: Glassware waste.
Each collection point records the weight of waste generated per category per day. Data is captured per ward/department for source-level tracking.
Storage & Disposal
Track the waste lifecycle:
- Collection: Waste collected from generation points to temporary storage area (within 48 hours).
- Storage: Temporary storage facility conditions documented (locked, signage, spill containment).
- Handover: Waste handed over to the authorised Common BMW Treatment Facility (CBWTF).
- Receipt acknowledgment: CBWTF provides a manifest receipt.
- Record the manifest number, waste quantity, and CBWTF operator details.
The system tracks the 48-hour storage limit and alerts when approaching the deadline.
Compliance Reporting
Auto-generate regulatory reports:
- Monthly BMW generation report by category and weight.
- Annual SPCB submission report.
- Spill/accident incident documentation.
- Staff training records for BMW handling.
- Audit checklists per NABH / BMW Rules compliance requirements.
All reports can be exported as PDF for regulatory submission.
Notes
Warning
The BMW Rules mandate colour-coded segregation at source. Bio Ecko flags departments with abnormal waste ratios (e.g., too much yellow waste relative to patient volume) for training follow-up.
