Overview

The Mortuary Management module tracks deceased patient management from the point of death declaration through body storage, death certificate generation, post-mortem coordination, and body release to the family. It maintains a complete chain of custody and ensures legal/regulatory compliance. Access at /dashboard/mortuary.

Admission & Storage

When a death occurs in the hospital:

  1. Death Declaration -- Linked to the IPD admission or ED visit record
  2. Body Registration -- Body assigned to a refrigerator slot with timestamp
  3. Identification -- Body tagged with patient details, MRN, and barcode
  4. Refrigerator Management -- Track available and occupied slots with temperature monitoring
  5. Storage Duration -- Alerts when storage exceeds 24/48/72 hour thresholds

Documentation

Required documentation managed by the module:

  • Death Certificate -- Generated with cause of death (ICD-10 coded), time of death, attending physician details
  • Post-Mortem Request -- If required, coordination with forensic department
  • Police Intimation -- For medico-legal cases, automatic generation of police notification form
  • Body Release Form -- Signed by authorized family member with ID verification
  • Embalming Record -- If embalming is performed before release

Compliance

The module ensures compliance with:

  • Municipal Corporation death registration requirements
  • Birth & Death Registration Act timelines
  • Medico-legal case procedures
  • Organ donation consent documentation (links to transplant coordinator)
  • NABH standards for mortuary management

Notes

Warning

Death certificates must be issued within the timeframe mandated by local authorities (typically 24-72 hours). The system generates reminders for pending certificates.

Info

For medico-legal cases, the body cannot be released without police clearance. The system enforces this workflow.
