Overview

The Linen module tracks hospital linen from issue to return, manages laundry cycles, monitors linen inventory, and ensures adequate supply across all wards and departments.

Linen Inventory

Maintain a master list of all linen items: bed sheets, pillow covers, blankets, towels, OT drapes, gowns, etc. Track total inventory, items in circulation, items in laundry, and items condemned. Set par levels per ward to ensure minimum stock availability.

Issue and Return

Daily linen exchange workflow:

  1. Ward staff raise a linen request specifying items and quantities.
  2. Linen room issues clean linen and records the transaction.
  3. Soiled linen is collected with quantity verification.
  4. Discrepancies (missing items) are flagged for investigation.
  5. The system tracks linen utilisation rate per bed per day.

Laundry Management

Track the laundry cycle:

  • Soiled linen categorisation: General, Infected (colour-coded as per BMW guidelines), OT linen.
  • Laundry dispatch and receipt tracking (in-house or outsourced).
  • Wash cycle documentation for infection control compliance.
  • Quality inspection on return: Stains, tears, wear assessment.
  • Condemned linen recording with replacement procurement.

Reporting

Reports include: Linen utilisation per ward, laundry turnaround time, linen loss/damage rates, cost per bed-day, and replacement forecasting.

Notes

Tip

RFID-tagged linen can be scanned for automated tracking. Bio Ecko supports RFID reader integration for high-volume hospitals.
