Overview
The Housekeeping module manages room cleaning schedules, task assignment, linen change tracking, and infection-control cleaning protocols. Bed turnaround time is tracked from patient discharge to room-ready status for IPD efficiency.
Task Management
Create and assign cleaning tasks:
- Automatic triggers: When a patient is discharged, a cleaning task is auto-created for that room/bed.
- Manual tasks: Supervisors can create ad-hoc tasks for common areas, OTs, or spill cleanups.
- Each task has: Location, priority (Routine, Urgent, Terminal Clean), assigned staff, and expected completion time.
- Staff receive tasks on their mobile device and mark them In Progress > Completed with timestamp.
- Supervisors see a real-time dashboard of pending, in-progress, and completed tasks.
Cleaning Protocols
Define standard cleaning protocols:
- Routine Clean: Daily room cleaning checklist (surface wipe, floor mop, bathroom, linen check).
- Discharge Clean: Post-patient deep cleaning with disinfection.
- Terminal Clean: Full decontamination for isolation rooms or infection cases.
- OT Cleaning: Between-case and end-of-day protocols.
Each protocol has a checklist that housekeeping staff must complete. Missed items are flagged.
Bed Turnaround Tracking
Track the time from patient discharge to bed availability:
- Discharge triggers a cleaning request with a timestamp.
- Housekeeping accepts and starts cleaning (timestamp).
- Cleaning completed (timestamp) -- bed status changes to Ready.
- The system calculates turnaround time and reports average by ward, shift, and day.
- Target turnaround times can be configured with alerts for delays.
Reporting
Housekeeping reports include:
- Task completion rates by staff, shift, and location.
- Average bed turnaround time trends.
- Protocol compliance: Percentage of tasks completed with full checklist.
- Linen consumption by ward and period.
- Staff productivity: Tasks completed per shift.
Reports help optimise staffing levels and identify areas needing attention.

Tip
Set target bed turnaround times per ward type (General: 60 min, ICU: 90 min, Isolation: 120 min) to benchmark and improve efficiency.
