Overview

The Nursing Console is the primary workspace for ward nurses managing admitted patients. It provides a unified view of all nursing tasks, medication administration, vital signs, intake/output, and care documentation for patients in a specific ward.

Key Features

  • Patient list filtered by ward/unit assignment
  • Medication Administration Record (MAR) with scanning verification
  • Vital signs charting with trend graphs
  • Intake and Output (I/O) monitoring
  • Nursing assessment forms (pain, fall risk, pressure injury, Braden scale)
  • Care plan documentation with nursing diagnoses
  • Task management with shift-based assignments
  • Shift handover tool with SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation)
  • PRN medication requests
  • Restraint monitoring and documentation

Shift Handover

At shift change:

  1. Outgoing nurse opens the Handover tool
  2. System pre-populates:
    • Active patients with key issues
    • Pending tasks and overdue medications
    • Critical lab values received during the shift
    • New admissions and expected discharges
  3. Nurse adds narrative notes for each patient
  4. Incoming nurse reviews and acknowledges receipt
  5. Handover is saved as a permanent record

This ensures continuity of care and is a NABH requirement.

Info

The MAR supports barcode scanning: scan the patient wristband, then the medication barcode, to verify the right patient-right drug-right dose-right time-right route.
