Overview
The Daycare module manages day surgery and same-day procedure bookings where patients are admitted and discharged within the same day. It streamlines the booking, pre-operative assessment, procedure, recovery, and discharge workflow for ambulatory surgical procedures. Access at /dashboard/daycare.
Booking Management
The Bookings page at /dashboard/daycare/bookings handles day surgery scheduling:
- Procedure Booking -- Schedule a patient for a specific procedure, surgeon, and date/time
- Pre-Operative Checklist -- Automated pre-op assessment checklist sent to the patient or completed at pre-admission
- Slot Management -- Configure available day surgery slots by procedure type, operating room, and surgeon
- Conflict Detection -- Prevents double-booking of rooms, equipment, or surgeon time
- Patient Communication -- Automated confirmation, preparation instructions, and day-before reminders via SMS/WhatsApp
Day-of-Surgery Workflow
On the day of the procedure:
- Check-In -- Patient arrives, identity verified, consent confirmed
- Pre-Op -- Nursing pre-op assessment, vitals, fasting status verification
- Procedure -- Surgery/procedure performed, linked to OT scheduling if applicable
- Recovery -- Post-procedure monitoring in the recovery area with vital sign tracking
- Discharge -- Post-procedure instructions, prescriptions, follow-up scheduling
The dashboard shows a real-time board of all day surgery patients with their current status in the workflow.
Recovery Tracking
The Recovery page at /dashboard/daycare/recovery monitors patients in the post-procedure recovery area:
- Recovery Scoring -- Aldrete score or Modified Post Anaesthesia Discharge Scoring (MPADSS) for discharge readiness
- Vital Signs -- Post-procedure vital sign monitoring at configurable intervals
- Pain Assessment -- Visual analog scale (VAS) pain scoring
- Discharge Criteria -- System validates all discharge criteria are met before allowing discharge
- Complications -- Document any post-procedure complications or adverse events
Billing Integration
Daycare procedures integrate with the billing module:
- Package-based billing for common day surgery procedures
- Automatic charge capture for procedure, supplies, medications, and recovery
- Insurance pre-authorization workflow for planned procedures
- Same-day billing and settlement

Create procedure-specific packages in the billing module for common day surgeries. This simplifies billing and reduces errors.
Clinic tip
Small clinics performing minor procedures (biopsies, excisions, endoscopies) can use the daycare module instead of the full IPD module.
