Overview

The Telemedicine module enables virtual consultations between doctors and patients through video calls, with integrated waiting room management, e-prescriptions, and consultation history. It supports both scheduled teleconsultations and on-demand walk-in virtual visits. Access the module at /dashboard/telemedicine.

Virtual Waiting Room

The waiting room at /dashboard/telemedicine/waiting-room manages the queue of patients waiting for their virtual consultation:

  • Patient Queue -- Patients appear in the queue after checking in for their scheduled teleconsultation or requesting an on-demand visit
  • Wait Time Tracking -- Real-time display of each patient's wait duration
  • Priority Sorting -- Patients can be prioritized based on urgency or appointment time
  • Auto-Notification -- Patients receive an SMS/WhatsApp notification when the doctor is ready
  • Join Link -- Each consultation generates a unique video call link sent to the patient

Video Consultation

The consultation page at /dashboard/telemedicine/consultation provides a full clinical workspace:

  • Video/Audio Call -- WebRTC-based video call with screen sharing and chat
  • Clinical Sidebar -- Patient chart, vitals history, past prescriptions, and lab results visible during the call
  • SOAP Notes -- Document the encounter using the standard SOAP note format
  • Prescription -- Write and send e-prescriptions directly from the consultation interface
  • Lab/Radiology Orders -- Order tests to be completed at the patient's next in-person visit
  • Follow-Up Scheduling -- Book the next appointment (virtual or in-person) before ending the call
  • Recording -- Optional call recording for quality assurance (with patient consent)

E-Prescription

The e-prescription feature at /dashboard/telemedicine/e-prescription allows doctors to issue prescriptions remotely:

  • Prescriptions are digitally signed with the doctor's registration number
  • QR code embedded for pharmacy verification
  • Sent to the patient via SMS/WhatsApp/email
  • Automatically linked to the patient's medication history
  • Compliant with Telemedicine Practice Guidelines (MCI 2020)

Consultation History

The history page at /dashboard/telemedicine/history maintains a complete record of all teleconsultations:

  • Consultation date, duration, doctor, and patient details
  • SOAP notes and prescriptions generated during the call
  • Call quality metrics (connection quality, disconnections)
  • Follow-up status (scheduled, completed, or pending)
  • Filter by date range, doctor, or patient

Patient-Side Experience

Patients access teleconsultations through:

  • Patient Portal -- Teleconsult tab shows upcoming and past virtual appointments
  • SMS/WhatsApp Link -- Direct join link sent 15 minutes before the scheduled time
  • Browser-Based -- No app installation required; works on any modern browser
  • Mobile Optimized -- Responsive video interface works on smartphones and tablets
  • Waiting Room -- Patient sees their queue position and estimated wait time

Notes

Info

Telemedicine consultations follow the same clinical documentation standards as in-person visits. All encounters are recorded in the patient's EMR.

Tip

Configure auto-reminders to send patients a join link 15 minutes and 5 minutes before their scheduled teleconsultation.

Warning

Ensure compliance with local telemedicine regulations. In India, follow the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020 issued by the Board of Governors (MCI).
