Overview
The Cardiology module extends clinical workflows with ECG management, echocardiography reporting, cardiac catheterisation documentation, risk scoring calculators, and cardiac rehabilitation tracking. It integrates with bedside monitors and PACS for seamless data capture.
ECG Management
Upload or capture 12-lead ECGs directly into the patient record:
- Digital ECG machines connected via USB or network auto-import tracings.
- Paper ECGs can be scanned and attached.
- Structured interpretation template covers: Rate, Rhythm, Axis, Intervals (PR, QRS, QTc), ST-T changes, and overall interpretation.
- Side-by-side comparison of serial ECGs to track changes.
- ECG findings auto-populate the cardiology consultation note.
Echocardiography Reporting
Structured echo reporting with:
- Chamber dimensions and wall thickness (M-mode and 2D measurements).
- Systolic function: Ejection fraction (Simpson's biplane, Teichholz, visual estimate), wall motion analysis with 17-segment model.
- Diastolic function: E/A ratio, E/e' ratio, deceleration time, IVRT.
- Valvular assessment: Stenosis and regurgitation grading for all four valves with standard parameters.
- Doppler data: Peak velocities, gradients, valve areas.
- Normal reference ranges displayed alongside measured values.
- Report templates for routine echo, stress echo, and TEE.
Cardiac Risk Calculators
Built-in validated calculators:
- Framingham Risk Score: 10-year cardiovascular disease risk.
- GRACE Score: ACS mortality risk stratification.
- CHA2DS2-VASc: Atrial fibrillation stroke risk.
- HAS-BLED: Bleeding risk on anticoagulation.
- TIMI Score: STEMI and NSTEMI risk assessment.
- EuroSCORE II: Cardiac surgery mortality prediction.
Scores are calculated automatically from patient data and stored in the clinical record.
Cardiac Catheterisation
Document cath lab procedures:
- Coronary angiography findings with vessel-by-vessel stenosis mapping.
- PCI documentation: Stent type, size, deployment pressure, result.
- Hemodynamic data: Pressures, oxygen saturations, cardiac output.
- Procedural complications and post-procedure orders.
- Structured templates for diagnostic cath, PCI, TAVI, and electrophysiology studies.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Track post-event cardiac rehab programs:
- Phase-based rehab planning (Phase I inpatient to Phase III community).
- Exercise prescription with target heart rate and MET levels.
- Session logging with vital signs, exercise tolerance, and symptoms.
- Risk factor modification tracking (lipids, BP, smoking status, weight, HbA1c).
- Outcome assessment with functional capacity and quality-of-life scores.
Notes
Tip
Connect your ECG machine to Bio Ecko for auto-import. Supported models include GE MAC, Philips TC, BPL, and any machine that exports standard SCP-ECG or PDF format.
Clinic tip
Cardiologists in small clinics should prioritise setting up ECG import and the echo reporting template -- these two features cover 90% of daily documentation needs.
