Overview
The MCH / Obstetrics module provides end-to-end care management for pregnant women and newborns -- from antenatal registration through delivery and postnatal follow-up. It includes specialized clinical documentation, fetal monitoring, high-risk pregnancy tracking, delivery records, and newborn care workflows.
Antenatal Care (ANC)
Manage the pregnancy journey:
- ANC registration with EDD (Expected Date of Delivery) calculation
- Visit schedule auto-generation based on gestational age (as per WHO/NHM guidelines)
- Antenatal card with visit-wise documentation (weight, BP, fundal height, fetal heart rate)
- Lab investigation tracking (blood group, Hb, HIV, HBsAg, urine routine, GTT)
- Ultrasound findings recording (12-week, 20-week anomaly scan, growth scans)
- High-risk pregnancy identification and alert flags
- Tetanus toxoid and iron-folic acid supplementation tracking
- Birth preparedness plan documentation
Labor & Delivery
Record the delivery process:
- Labor admission with partograph (digital)
- Cervical dilatation and descent tracking with graphical representation
- Fetal heart rate monitoring log
- Delivery record (type: NVD, LSCS, assisted; time, complications)
- Apgar score recording at 1 min and 5 min
- Newborn details (weight, length, head circumference, sex)
- Placenta examination record
- Blood loss estimation
- Immediate postpartum notes
For cesarean deliveries, the module integrates with the OT scheduling and surgical notes.
Postnatal & Newborn Care
Track mother and newborn after delivery:
- Postnatal visit schedule (6 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days, 42 days)
- Breastfeeding initiation and counseling record
- Newborn examination findings
- Immunization schedule (BCG, OPV-0, Hep-B birth dose)
- Newborn screening test results
- Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) tracking for LBW babies
- NICU admission tracking with daily progress notes
- Discharge checklist for mother and baby
Registers & Reports
Auto-generated statutory registers:
- Delivery register (mandatory for all hospitals)
- Birth certificate data export
- MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) register
- High-risk pregnancy register
- JSSK (Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram) reporting
- HMIS (Health Management Information System) monthly returns
- Maternal mortality and near-miss reporting
- Perinatal mortality register
Integration Points
MCH integrates with:
- OPD for antenatal clinic visits
- IPD for labor room admission and postnatal ward
- OT for cesarean section scheduling
- Laboratory for ANC investigations
- Radiology for ultrasound orders
- Pharmacy for supplements and medications
- Billing for delivery package billing
- ABDM for Mother & Child Tracking System (MCTS) data push
Notes
Tip
Use the color-coded ANC calendar to instantly see which patients are due for their next visit and which are overdue.
Warning
Always verify the EDD calculation. The system calculates from LMP by default, but clinicians can override with ultrasound-based dating.
Clinic tip
Clinics that handle only antenatal checkups (not deliveries) can disable the labor & delivery section and use MCH purely for ANC tracking and referral management.
